From now on , you may call him Honorable Rep. Mikee Romero
Bouyed by a massive television advertising campaign and the name of the most famous, living Filipino, Bilyonaryo Mikee Romero has barged into Congress through party-list voting.
Romero’s 1Pacman (or One Patritoic coalition of Marginalized Nationals) party-list emerged third in the voting with 1,258,827 votes or 4.31 percent of the total votes cast for party-list groups.
This means that his party-list was assured of at least two seats in Batasan. His group’s other nominee is Erick Pineda, boxing icon Manny Pacquiao’s business manager.
Romero, who runs a port terminal and is part owner of Air Aisa, said that he would donate his salary in congress for sports development. He planned to raise a sports fund from his business friends to bankroll the development of world-class Filipino athletes for global competition , specifically the Olympics.
In endorsing Romero’s party-list, Pacquiao said: “1Pacman will fight for people?s interest in Congress in promoting good governance and in improving the ailing sports program in the country.”
Aside from Pacquiao, Romero’s party-list tapped sports idols such as James Yap, Terrence Romeo, Jayson Castro, Marc Pingris, LA Tenorio, Rachel Anne Daquiz and Aby Marano as endorsers in the campaign.
