Elizabeth Sy shares memories and love for alma mater

Returning to her alma matter, Miriam College (formerly known Maryknoll College) to turn over a multi-million peso state-of-the-art innovation center has triggered a flood of memories for Elizabeth Sy, the youngest daughter of Bilyonaryo Henry Sy Sr.

I have very good memories (of Maryknoll). It was a school that taught us to be ourselves, to be independent, to be fearless and conventional. That?s what I value about Miriam College. We knew it as Maryknoll College,? Sy told reporters on the sidelines of the turnover ceremony for the P100 million Miriam College-Henry Sy Sr. Innovation Center.

Designed by Architect Eduardo Calma, the Miriam College-Henry Sy Sr. Innovation Center houses workshop rooms, fabrication laboratories and exhibition spaces for the project in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math for Basic Education students as well as for Higher education students taking up Entrepreneurship, Visual Arts, and Communications.

Elizabeth, wh graduated with a degree in Business Administration from Maryknoll in 1974, is the president of SM Hotels and Convention Corp., where she steers the SM Group?s continuous growth in the tourism, leisure and hospitality industry.

She likewise serves as adviser to the boards of SM Investments Corp., and SM Prime Holdings. She also serves as a member of the executive committee and trust Committee of the board of directors of BDO Private Bank, Inc.
