Ramon Ang forks out P1B for mass housing condos in Duterte?s home town

Bilyonaryo Ramon S. Ang has donated P1 billion to build low-rise condominiums on government land in Davao City.

This was revealed by President Rodrigo Duterte who said Ang?s San Miguel Foods Corp. Foundation would finance the ?Bahay sa Pagbabago? relocation projects in Tugboc and Tibungko in Davao City.

?He (Ang) contributed a counterpart of that dito sa Los Amigos, sa tapat. Yun ay intended for victims of fire, syempre pag nasunog ?yan ayaw na silang pabalikin ng mga may-ari. So I decided to buy that piece of property there and it?s already full and it was intended for fire victims. I cannot just also turn away, maraming pumasok diyan na rin, ?Mayor wala talaga kaming bahay.?. Maski wa nasunugan, sige na lang tutal Filipino naman,? said Duterte.

Duterte said Ang himself did not want his name announced as the financier of the project. ?This Ramon, may sheer guts, by his own hard work he became a billionaire 10 times over…He gave donations, charitable endeavors but they don’t publish it,” said Duterte.

Ang offered to fund Duterte?s presidential bid during the campaign but Duterte claimed he did not accept Ang?s money. ?Pero nagmakaloob na sila. Nanalo ako? Okay. Ngayon, tanggapin ko na pera niyo sige. Tulungan ninyo ako ng mga bahay,? said Duterte who earlier admitted that he received campaign money from Ang who was not among the campaign contributors he reported to the Commission on Elections.

Ang plans to build 21 low-rise condominiums on the 6.2-hectare property. The 840 units will have an average size of 42 square meters each.
