PLDT told to regularize almost 9,000 ‘endo’ employees

The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) has ordered Philippine Long Distance Telephone Co. to regularize nearly 9,000 of its contractual workers following a special announcement that showed the telco giant had breached labor standards.

Labor Secretary Silvestro Bello said PLDT failed to disprove the agency’s findings it violated general labor standards when it hired contractual workers to perform jobs that are directly related to the company’s main business.

The PLDT Group, which is composed of mobile giant Smart, TNT and Sun Cellular, was also directed to pay P77.5 million to about 2,500 employees.
