DOF approves P196M grants to make towns disaster-proof

Prevention is always better than cure.

The Department of Finance (DOF) announced that it has approved two new climate change adaptation projects proposed by local government units (LGUs) under the People’s Survival Fund, adding to two approved in November last year.

In statement, the DOF said four disaster mitigation projects are now in the works in Lanuza, Surigao del Sur; Del Carmen, Surigao del Norte; San Francisco, Camotes Island, Cebu; and in Gerona, Tarlac.

The funds released are to be used for disaster mitigation measures for areas which are deemed prone to natural calamities.

This will be taken from the annual P1-billion funding for the program, on top of the annual appropriations allocated to LGUs for climate-change related programs and projects.
