Drivers may shun travelling south due to suspension of surge pricing – Uber
Uber Systems Inc. said the suspension of surge pricing to passengers in the southern part of Metro Manila could discourage drivers to service the area.
?Without surcharges, reliability in these areas will decrease significantly and potentially lead to unsustainable earnings for drivers. Riders will have a difficult time securing a ride without drivers properly supplying these lower demand areas that riders may request from,? Uber said in a statement.
?Riders may likewise see no vehicles available at all. Drivers will not be fairly compensated for the travel time and lack of requests that they may encounter driving to a lower demand service area,? it added.
At present, there are three areas covered by surcharges: trips that traverse SLEX/Skyway and exit at Bicutan, Sucat, or Alabang, trips going to East of NCR (Antipolo and Rizal areas), and trips going to Cavite.
Uber used to impose surcharges between P80 and P100 for its passengers in the southern metro to ensure that its partner-drivers are able to cover the costs.
