Customs hands over smuggled turtles, snakes to DENR

They won’t let these animals get out in the wild just yet.

The Bureau of Customs has blocked the export of several packages out of Manila after these were discovered to carry animals which are being sent to Taiwan.

In a statement, the bureau said they intercepted boxes of Chinese soft shell turtles and live eels being shipped from the Ninoy Aquino International Airport, which came all the way from Pampanga.

The shipments did not have clearance from the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR).

Two weeks prior to this, a package of “sweet pastries” being sent to Sweden actually contained pit vipers, Philippine cobras, and sailfin lizards.

All the animals were turned over to the DENR.
