P142M worth of Mighty illicit cigarettes shredded

Oh, how the Mighty has fallen.

Officials from the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) led the ceremonial crushing of 5 million packs of illicit cigarettes seized by authorities back in March, which represent the first stash from Mighty Corporation.

The cigarettes worth P142.44 million were recovered from Mighty’s warehouse in General Santos City, and were later on brought to Davao — the President’s lair — to be destroyed.

The BIR tapped Holcim Philippines Geocycle for a special method to junk these cigarettes once and for all, which makes sure to minimize the toxic gas emission and pollutants from pulverizing the items.

Mighty has since paid P25 billion as tax settlement after it was discovered using fake cigarette stamps to get away with paying taxes for their products.
