Missy Elizalde’s response to smart-shaming
We are totally applauding Missy Macuja Elizalde?s Ig rant.
The daugbter of business magnate Fred Elizalde and prima ballerina Lisa Macuja shared her mad musings on smart-shaming.
?Babaeng may utak” (tr: girl with a brain) is something that I hear being said to me and other girls and no, it is not always meant as a compliment. It sometimes comes with a “sayang” (what a waste), “kawawa yung magiging asawa mo” (pity the man who becomes your husband) as if my brains or sharp tongue is something that is off putting and unattractive to the classic male. I want to say that if someone thinks that as a woman you must be “brainless” in any way you can gently tell them that you are who you are and they shouldn’t feel the need to tell you what they think you should be. Especially when it’s a man who catcalls you on the street and is surprised you speak Tagalog, totally not a personal example. Oonga, may utak ako. At sayang nga hindi mo magamit yung sayo. Happy fucking women’s day,? @m.eli.zalde said.
WTG, Missy! We?re totally behind you on this.
