PCCI makes pitch for Boracay clean-up: Close 1 station at a tim
It’s the best compromise for everybody.
The Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI) voiced opposition to the Executive’s plan to shut down Boracay island for one year, in line with President Rodrigo Duterte’s call to clean up the popular tourist spot.
“PCCI is concerned with the government?s plan to shut down the island for one year as this will negatively impact on the country?s economy,” the group of Pinoy businessmen said in a statement, citing that over 2 million tourists visited Boracay in 2017.
Instead, PCCI director for Tourism Samie Lim suggests a compromise to ?close one station at a time? for rehabilitation.
“Phasing is important so we are able to protect the interest of all parties concerned, especially the local residents whose income are dependent on Boracay?s economic activity,” Lim said.
