Will GMA tap Smart for own digital box?
The neck-and-neck rivalry intensifies.
GMA Network revealed plans to launch its own digital box technology to match that being offered by ABS-CBN.
In a disclosure, GMA said it was set to launch their own device which would be “smaller and cheaper” than ABS-CBN’s TV Plus, which retails at P1,499.
But plans are not yet 100 percent ripe, as GMA chairman Felipe Gozon revealed that they are still waiting for the “official partnership” with a telecommunications firm for distribution.
Since ABS-CBN is leveraging on Globe Telecom, that leaves no other option but a partnership between GMA and Manny Pangilinan’s Smart Telecommunications.
A million digital boxes are up for retail sale once the project is a go.
