Extra challenge: NEDA’s P10,000 monthly budget sparks outrage

Netizens called out the government agency for being so out of touch from reality.

Pinoys are already pissed enough to see that prices of food and other basic goods are rising fast, but somehow the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) aggravated the anger pangs even more.

NEDA Undersecretary Rosemarie Edillon explained the impact of May’s 4.6 percent inflation on Tuesday, June 5 in peso terms and compared it to the impact to a family of five living with P10,000 as a monthly budget.

Of the amount, less than P4,000 is needed for monthly food expenses.

This sparked outrage online, with netizens slamming the agency for being so unrealistic.

Even former Presidential Spokesperson Abigail Valte is not amused.

Some turned to humor.

Soon after, the #NEDA10kChallenge started trending on Twitter.

Will NEDA step up?
