Lucio Co buys stake in Spanish distiller

 

Tycoon Lucio Co has acquired a significant stake in Spain’s Williams and Humbert Wineries to take advantage of the growing popularity of fine spirits among the cosmopolitan and thirsty middle class.

Based in Jerez de la Frontera, Williams & Humbert has one of the longest histories and traditions in making Sherry wine and brandy. It manufactures well known brands Alhambra and Alfonso.

It has over 30 brands marketed in over 70 countries.

The fresh capital infusion will allow rhe Spanish whisky firm to strengthen its existing business and expand in the future.

The business relationship between Co and the Spanish firm began in 1999 with Cosco Capital’s importation of the ?1877? and ?Alfonso I? brands.

Alfonso I is now now one of the leading brandy brands in the Philippines

Cosco Capital is Co’s listed holding company with diverse interests in the retail sector, as well as distribution of fast-moving consumer goods, energy and real estate.
