Focus on construction training, NEDA tells DepEd, DOLE
These skills are needed for the next few years.
The National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) wants government agencies to zoom in on preparing the next batch of workers to enter the construction industry, as this would be the booming sector over the coming years.
“To fully maximize gains from Build Build Build, the Philippine labor market should be ready to meet the infrastructure program?s requirements,” NEDA Secretary Ernesto Pernia said in a statement.
Pernia appealed to the Department of Labor and Employment, the Department of Education, Commission on Higher Education, and the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority to talk to companies in order to “identify appropriate skills for construction-related activities.”
This is in anticipation of 1.1 million new jobs per year to be created by the “Build, Build, Build” infrastructure campaign of the Duterte administration.
