Infra projects may be privatized down the road, Dominguez says

A cash-strapped future government will have more guns to wield should the need arise.

Finance Secretary Carlos Dominguez III floated the possibility of privatizing the numerous infrastructure projects being built by the Duterte administration.

Apart from solving transport issues, Dominguez sees the “Build, Build, Build” program as a way to deepen the government’s asset base.

“While we are doing all these projects ourselves, the government is building up an asset base that is going to be very large,” Dominguez said in a statement.

“Some future government, you know, down the road, 20 to 30 years from now, may need money, they can sell those and go to a privatization program,” he added.

Now that’s another way of looking at it.
