Win Gatchalian wants lifetime phone numbers for Pinoys
It’s a timely bill ahead of the entry of a third telco player.
Senator Sherwin Gatchalian has proposed to assign personal cellphone numbers to all Filipinos for life under a new bill he filed in Congress.
Dubbed the Lifetime Cellphone Number Act, the politiko said this is the perfect time to pass the measure and would help Pinoys who are particularly looking forward to avail the services of the third telco to be named by the Duterte administration.
“The 3rd telco needs to poach from the two existing telcos and in order to do that, he has to lower down the price, improve the service. But a lot of us especially those in business and in public service will have a difficult time changing their numbers and then texting everyone the new number — it becomes a barrier for all of us to transfer,” Gatchalian said in an interview.
“Now, if the third telco will lower the price, we can actually bring that number to the new telco.”

It’s all a matter of convenience, Gatchalian said.
