Gov’t debt grows to P7.2T

Debts are growing due to new bonds.

Outstanding debt grew to P7.167 trillion as of end-October, adding P7.3 billion from the past month to reflect additional bond issuances from the Bureau of the Treasury.

Domestic debt still accounted for 64.5 percent of total borrowings, which totaled P4.62 trillion. This factors in a total of P32.74 billion in new debt papers issued to investors during the period.

Meanwhile, foreign loans reached P2.55 trillion to slide by P25.15 billion from September.

“This was tempered by the net appreciation of third-currency denominated external debt amounting to P2.52 billion,” the Treasury said.

Total guaranteed payments reached P3.41 billion in October.
