DoTr closes deal with Sumitomo for MRT3 rehab

 

The Department of Transportation (DOTr) has signed a contract with Sumitomo Corp. for the rehabilitation and maintenance of the Metro Rail Transit (MRT) Line 3 system.

The contract will cover the entire 16.9-kilometer MRT line, all its 13 stations, the remaining 72 Light Rail Vehicles (LRV), and the MRT-3 depot on North Avenue, Quezon City.

“All sub-systems will be restored, renewed or upgraded, including MRT-3’s trackworks, signaling system, power supply system, overhead catenary system (OCS), communications system, and maintenance and station equipment,” DOTr said.

DoTr earlier said the rehabilitation would take 43 months.

Last Novemver, the government signed the P18-billion loan agreement with the government of Japan for the MRT3 system’s rehabilitation and maintenance.
