Success! Customs hits 2018 collection goal
Collections hovered just above the full-year target.
The Bureau of Customs ended 2018 on a high note after it collected P585.54 billion, slightly higher than the P584.88 billion which it was tasked to raise this year.
This marked a whopping 27.8 percent increase from the P458.18 billion collected in 2017. Of the nationwide ports, 14 out of (P165.075 billion), the Port of Manila (P86.191 billion), and the Port of Ninoy Aquino International Airport (P40.85 billion).
“We still need to strengthen our collection efforts and do better to achieve our goal of a consistent and enhanced collection performance,” newly-minted Commissioner Rey Leonardo Guerrero said in a statement.
Bulk of the progress was made between February-September when the bureau hit above-target collections for eight straight months, which was then under the watch of ex-Customs Chief Isidro Lapeña.
