Aboitiz group to build cell towers
The infrastructure arm of the Cebu-based Aboitiz clan has inked a memorandum of understanding with the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) to build, operate, and maintain cell towers nationwide.
Aboitiz InfraCapital COO Cosette V. Canilao said the move was in reponse to the government’s call for a modern and efficient telecommunication infrastructure.
The company must secure a binding contract with the country’s telco operators. Once this is secured, a memorandum of agreement will be discussed with the DICT.
“The Aboitiz group possesses extensive experience in building and operating utility networks, for example, through its distribution utilities Visayan Electric Co. Inc. and Davao Light and Power Co., Inc. Moreover, the Aboitiz group has established a strong track record on the management and execution of complex projects,” Canilao said.
Through sister firm Aboitiz Power, Aboitiz InfraCapital can provide the expertise to find efficient solutions for the power requirements of the cellular towers.
Other projects of Aboitiz InfraCapital are the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) expansion through a partnership with six other conglomerates and the operation and maintenance of Bohol-Panglao International Airport.
Thr group, through Apo Agua, is building the country’s largest private bulk water supply facility in Davao City. It also has stakes in Lima Water Corp. and Balibago Waterworks Systems.
