Pinoy seamen send more money home in Feb

 

Is the pay getting better at sea?

The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) reported steady cash remittances in February, with the number clocking in at $2.3 billion versus $2.27 billion a year ago.

This brought the two-month tally to $4.78 billion, up by 3% from $4.65 billion in 2018.

While land-based overseas workers sent the bulk at $3.73 billion, the central bank took note of a 10.5% spike in remittances from sea-based Pinoys working abroad.

One-third of the remittances were from the US, followed by Pinoys in Saudi Arabia, Singapore, United Kingdom, United Arab Emirates, Japan, Canada, Qatar, Hong Kong, and Germany.
