Best of both worlds: Diokno gets BSP, DBM together in one event
This is the perfect interaction of his past and present.
Central bank Governor Benjamin Diokno may have switched hats after President Rodrigo Duterte appointed him to his new post, but he has found his way back to the Department of Budget and Management.
The ex-Cabinet official spoke before Procurement officials, but this time to sell the central bank’s push towards electronic payments.
Diokno wants government to shift to e-payments for purchases and procured materials to lead the change in the country.
“The Philippine government, as the single largest buyer in the domestic market, may leverage on the payment and settlement systems already existing under the regulatory framework of the BSP,” Diokno said during the 2019 Procurement Summit, adding that this is the better option versus paper checks.
Will he be the convincing familiar figure that this state agency is waiting for?
