BOC on tenterhooks: Only Duterte knows who will be kicked out for corruption
An official of the Bureau of Customs (BOC) on Saturday said more Bureau officials were likely to be removed from their posts.
Assistant Commissioner Vincent Philip Maronilla said they were just waiting for the corrupt Customs officials President Rodrigo Duterte wanted to remove.
“No comment. We would allow the President to first make an announcement on who are the personalities because right now we do not know who would be affected by the planned changes in the bureau,” he said in an interview.
Maronilla said he talked with BOC Commissioner Rey Leonardo Guerrero and discussed the President’s pronouncement that more Customs officials would be axed.
Last Friday, Duterte said he would be firing more officials from the Bureau.
The President is looking to make the changes to address the continuing corruption in the agency.
He would be tapping officials from the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) to succeed the posts to be vacated.
To date, there are some five ex-military officials occupying top positions in the BOC including Guerrero, Deputy Director Intelligence Group Raniel Ramiro, and Deputy Director for Internal Administration Group (IAG) Donato Belmonte San Juan. (PNA)
