Tomb Raider or Wonder Woman? Pinoys say pretty US envoy will make Duterte behave


The new United States Ambassador to the Philippines, Mina Chang, could prove to be the best choice to reverse President Rodrigo Duterte’s pivot to China.

Netizens were quick to point out how Washington played its cards right as they replaced Ambassador Sung Kim from his assignment in Manila. Taking his place is diplomat Mina Chang, who is also of Asian descent but is a cross between “Lara Croft” and “Wonder Woman” in American cinema.

Chang is currently assigned to the State Department’s Bureau of Conflict and Stabilization Operations, but previously worked as chief executive officer of the non-government organization Linking the World.

Filipino males are happy with the choice, seeing Chang’s beauty and brains will pacify even the toughest anti-US rhetoric of Duterte.

“I see what you did there U.S. Well played, well played,” one said..

For another, he’s almost sure that the new envoy will be the subject of lewd remarks from the President himself.

“This is the new US Ambassador to the Philippines. Can’t wait for the president to say something wildly inappropriate. Welcome, Ms. Chang,” he said on Facebook.

Even columnist Wilson Lee Flores weighed in to commend the choice.

“Smart move by America, because President Duterte seems angry at Western, Caucasian colonial attitude in the past & seems to respect east Asians, he is also known to admire pretty women,” he said.
