Move over BPOs: POGOs set to dominate office rentals by end-2019
Online casinos will soon dislodge call centers as the biggest market for office space in the Philippines, according to Leechiu Property Consultants.
Philippine offshore gaming operators (POGOs) are expected to snap up 480,000 square meters (sq.m.) for their offices and online gaming tables by end-2019, leapfrogging business process outsourcing firms at second place with 450,000 square meters of leases.
POGOs are virtually in a dead heat with BPOs at 244,000 as of mid-year.
“It’s not a question of how fast it will grow but how fast we can keep up with their demand,” CEO David Leechiu said.
But POGOs are also hot in the eyes of the economic team with the Bureau of Internal Revenue chasing after thousands of foreigners — mostly Chinese — for their fake documents and failure to pay taxes.
