PLDT Group retains PH’s fastest telco crown
PLDT Inc. and its wireless subsidiary Smart Communications Inc. have consistently been rated as the fastest fixed and mobile data networks in the country.
Based on the latest report by Ookla, the global leader in internet testing and analysis, both PLDT and Smart widened their respective leads over their competitors in the first half.
PLDT achieved a speed score of 20.44, with top download speeds of 51.36 Mbps and top upload speeds of 54.22 Mbps.
The fixed network award is based on 25.17
million customer-initiated Speedtest nationwide
Rival Globe Telecom clocked in a download speed of 27.47 Mbps while Sky Broadband logged 30.52 Mbps and Globe (12.72 Mbps).
On the other hand, Smart achieved racked up a speed score of 17.07 with average download speeds of 19.33 Mbps and average upload speeds of 9.16 Mbps.
The mobile award is based on 1.86 million consumer-initiated tests taken with Speedtest on LTE-capable devices in the Philippines.
Globe’s average download and upload speed were 11.38 Mbps and 4.74 Mbps, respectively.
Initial data also showed PLDT posting big leads in key cities like Quezon City, Cebu City and Pasig, whereas Smart’s speed score more than doubling that of competition in Quezon City, Makati, and Manila.
