Gilbert Santa Maria is frontrunner for PAL president

 

IBEX Global Solutions Ltd.’s former COO Gilbert F. Santa Maria is a leading candidate for CEO at tycoon Lucio Tan’s Philippine Airlines and is likely to be appointed at the flag carrier’s board meeting on Monday, Bloomberg reported.

When asked to confirm if Santa Maria was the successor of Jaime Bautista who resigned last month, Tan was quoted as saying “That’s true.”

Tan assumed the role of interim president of PAL with his daughter Vivienne K. Tan assisting him in the day-to-day operations of the flag carrier.

Vivienne is EVP of PAL, which aims to become a five-star airline.

Santa Maria was responsible for managing IBEX’s global operations. He has 20 years of senior-level management, investment and consulting experience.

He served as the COO and CFO IQ BackOffice and senior advisor to LiveIt Investments Ltd. Prior to LiveIt, Santa Maria served as SVP for Corporate Development at Stream Global Services and was responsible for global M&A as well as joint venture initiatives in Brazil, China and Japan.

Santa Maria headed both Philippine operations and global mergers and acquisitions for Stream Global Services, Inc.

He also served as head of Philippine Operations of Convergys Philippines in June 2009 .

Santa Maria was also credited for turning eTelecare into a bigger company and managing 12,000 employees in the Philippines.
