PH tourism revenues jump 18% in H1
The country’s tourism industry generated P235 billion in receipts from international visitors in the first half, 17.6% higher than the same period last year.
In June alone, spending reached P38 billion or an increase of 30.56% year on year.
Foreign tourists are also spending more and staying longer in the Philippines.
Data from the Department of Tourism showed that average daily expenditure per tourist reached $120.6, up 28.6% from the previous year.
Foreign tourists likewise stayed an average 9.01 nights.
“These economic numbers are exciting but the real purpose of why the government is working hard to push these numbers up year after year is for the Filipino people,” said Tourism Secretary Bernadette Romulo-Puyat.
Data also showed that tourist arrivals breached the 4 million mark in January to June, reflecting an increase of 11.4% year on year.
